For people to find the blog – your online business - that you have worked so hard on, you must have good Search Engine Optimization, or SEO on it.   This should be your primary means of online advertising, and is the use of specific keywords or phrases in your posts that you expect web surfers to find your post.

A well optimized post on your blog can be rank really well with search engines and will therefore be easily found by surfers who use their favourite search engine - be it Google, yahoo, msn, search or any other search engine. They will enter a keyword or phrase within the search area, and when they press enter, all the articles that have been indexed by that search engine will be displayed.  Those that are displayed within the first two page views of the search results are the ones that will most likely be seen and visited by surfers. Your goal should therefore be to get your posts within the first two pages of search engines, especially the major ones like Google, and Search Engine Optimization, or SEO plays an important part in this.

For example, if your blog is about muscle toning, then you should ensure that your blog focuses on this topic and that each post includes popular terms relevant to muscle toning such as muscle toning, toning muscles, muscle toning exercises, etc.

You will have to do some research and think about the things that people look for who are interested in muscle toning. You should also do some research on how much competition there is for each keyword or phrase you are thinking of using. It will be a lot more difficult to rank well with highly competitive search terms.  If however, you focus on the less competitive search terms, and build your blog around these initially, then after you blog has been established, it can be possible to rank well even with the highly competitive search terms.  There are tools that can help with this.

As you press on with your blog, keep in mind that Search Engine Optimization should be your primary means of online advertising for your blog – your business.  There are other important aspects of online advertising such choosing the right keywords and keyword density, that we will look at in other posts.
